Campania region unites tomato, pasta, pizza promotion and adopts lemon landscape charter
On 17 June 2026, the Campania region’s agricultural bodies signed a protocol linking three of its flagship food products – San Marzano DOP tomato, Gragnano IGP pasta and Verace Pizza Napoletana – to coordinate joint marketing and protection efforts in national and overseas markets. The agreement was signed by the presidents of the three product consortia and by regional agriculture assessor Maria Carmela Serluca, who pledged regional support to combat counterfeiting and boost the sector’s competitiveness. Production of San Marzano tomato has nearly doubled in the past five years, reaching about 190 000 quintals, with roughly 80 % exported to the United States, Japan, Canada, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Australia.
In a separate but related initiative, the “Carta dei paesaggi agrumicoli” was signed in Amalfi by Confagricoltura Campania, the municipalities of Amalfi and Procida and ANCI Campania. The charter recognises lemon cultivation as a vital cultural and economic asset, commits to preserving terraced orchards, improving biodiversity, supporting sustainable practices and linking the sector to tourism and local identity, while addressing rising costs, labour shortages and fragmented land ownership.
Both actions aim to strengthen Campania’s agri‑food reputation, protect traditional products from imitation, and create a more integrated, export‑oriented agricultural model for the region.
