Campanópolis: A medieval-inspired village in Buenos Aires

Campanópolis is a unique medieval-inspired village located in González Catán, within the La Matanza district of Buenos Aires province. The 200-hectare site was transformed over several decades from an old landfill into a surreal landscape featuring forests, lakes, bridges, and eclectic constructions.

The project was the lifelong vision of Antonio Campana, who, despite having no formal architectural training, used his imagination to shape the settlement. A central element of the village is the extensive use of recycled materials. Objects, woods, and metals were recovered from various locations across Buenos Aires, Argentina, and around the world to create structures such as the Stone House, the Wooden House, and the Slag House.

According to team member Oscar Campana, the experience of visiting the site involves discovering the history and anecdotes behind the many recovered objects that give the village its distinctive character.
