Wei Wai Kum First Nation breaks ground on Campbell River waterfront hotel

The Wei Wai Kum First Nation has officially broken ground on a new waterfront hotel in downtown Campbell River. The project, which is Nation-owned and will be managed by Innovation Hospitality, is expected to open in the spring of 2029.

Branded as a Tapestry Collection by Hilton, the hotel will be situated on a waterfront site near the Discovery Harbour Marina and Discovery Harbour Shopping Centre. The groundbreaking ceremony, held on September 11, included a traditional land blessing and featured a ceremonial shovel carved by Master Carver Bill Henderson.

Chief Councillor Chris Roberts stated that the project aims to create a legacy that strengthens the Nation's economy and provides employment and tourism opportunities for future generations. Campbell River Mayor Kermit Dahl noted that the development is expected to enhance the city's appeal as a destination and support local businesses.
