Campdevànol mayor warns rental regulations may reduce housing supply

The Mayor of Campdevànol, Oriol Lázaro, has expressed concerns regarding the effectiveness of new rental regulations following the municipality's inclusion in the registry of stressed residential market zones. Lázaro warned that such regulations could be “contraproduent” (counterproductive) by discouraging property owners from offering apartments on the rental market.

According to a municipal study, the primary issue in the town of approximately 3,000 inhabitants is a lack of supply rather than excessive demand. The study identified nearly 120 vacant homes, many of which require rehabilitation or remain off the market due to legal uncertainty.

To address this, the City Council is finalizing a Municipal Housing Action Plan. This plan prioritizes the rehabilitation of existing vacant properties and the mobilization of the current housing stock before pursuing new construction. The Mayor noted that housing difficulties are hindering youth independence and the ability of local businesses to attract workers.
