Campeche agricultural and institutional updates

The State Committee for Plant Health in Campeche has launched training sessions for producers to implement the 2026 Regional Control plan against citrus pests. The initiative aims to protect over 600 hectares across the state, specifically targeting the Asian citrus psyllid (Diaphorina citri), which transmits the devastating HLB disease. Farmers are being encouraged to use biological and sustainable inputs, such as Isaria javanica fungus and mineral oil, to manage the pest without risking local fauna or human health.

Separately, the Instituto Campechano (IC) has launched an investigation following reports of a tick infestation at the School of Social Work and a video showing a security guard dragging a dog named ‘Bizcocho’ by its hind legs. The institution conducted fumigation efforts and relocated classes temporarily. While the IC claimed the guard was attempting to protect the animal from chemical products during fumigation, the incident has raised questions regarding the effectiveness of the institute's maintenance programs.
