Campeche announces five-day school break for public sector

The government of Campeche has announced a five-day school break for the public sector, spanning Thursday, September 17, and Friday, September 18. Governor Layda Sansores introduced the measure as a rest period for teachers and students following the Independence Day celebrations.

While public institutions such as the Colegio de Bachilleres de Campeche (Cobacam) will observe the break, private schools have decided to maintain their regular academic schedules. This distinction has caused controversy among parents working in the private sector who must arrange childcare. Additionally, the decision has faced criticism due to recent concerns from the Campeche Secretary of Education regarding academic performance and educational gaps.
