Campeche Congress Orders Emergency Road Fix and Approves Health Reform
The Campeche State Congress gave the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT) and the state government a 15‑day deadline to submit a detailed plan and comprehensive project to rescue the deteriorating Federal Highway 180 segment at Sabancuy, which is threatened by coastal erosion and damage from sea waves. It demands geotechnical studies, redesign of breakwaters, and immediate deployment of heavy machinery to stabilize the road, warning against superficial fixes.
In a separate session, the same Congress approved a health reform aimed at bringing primary‑care services closer to remote communities in Campeche, and established a prize to recognize outstanding nurses. The reform, promoted by Deputy José Antonio Jiménez Gutiérrez, will coordinate municipalities and health authorities to provide public spaces for health promotion, disease prevention and basic medical care. The session also recognized awardees in categories such as academic, service and community care.
