Campeche electrical infrastructure damaged by heavy rains

Heavy rains and strong winds in the state of Campeche, Mexico, have caused damage to electrical infrastructure in multiple municipalities.

In Ciudad del Carmen, the collapse of two utility poles in the Bivalvo neighborhood left several families without electricity. Residents reported that the fallen structures and wiring blocked parts of Paseo del Mar avenue, creating hazards for pedestrians and motorists. Locals have criticized the Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) for a perceived lack of preventive maintenance, noting that the infrastructure appeared deteriorated prior to the storm.

In Hopelchén, a utility pole tilted onto electrical lines in the downtown area, causing sparks and posing risks to those in the vicinity. The incident occurred amid atmospheric instability caused by low-pressure channels over the Campeche Sound and the Gulf of Honduras. While CFE personnel were reported to be attending to the situation in Hopelchén, the weather patterns continue to bring potential for heavy rainfall and wind across the region.
