Campeche faces organized crime surge as Caborca Cartel banners appear
The state of Campeche is facing a surge in organized crime activity following the appearance of coordinated criminal banners, attributed to the expansion of the Caborca Cartel. Between August 29 and August 31, threatening messages were discovered in the municipalities of Tenabo, Hecelchakán, and Hopelchén.
In Tenabo, a banner appeared on a bridge leading to the Campeche-Mérida highway, accusing State Police commanders of providing protection to the local criminal group Pura Gente Nueva (PGN). In Hecelchakán, a second message was reported near a local manufacturing plant. In the community of Bolonchén de Rejón, located in the Hopelchén municipality, a third banner was found near a local college, issuing death threats against two alleged local drug distributors.
The Secretaría de Protección y Seguridad Ciudadana (SPSC) has officially acknowledged the findings as authorities investigate the scope of these threats.
