Campeche Governor Layda Sansores Concludes Human Rights Congress, Plans Europe Trip

Governor Layda Sansores closed the National Congress of the Federation of Mexican Public Human Rights Organizations held in Campeche, reiterating her commitment to social justice and fundamental rights. The state government announced the release of more than 350 individuals who had been unjustly imprisoned and the creation of support mechanisms to aid their reintegration. A working group was also formed to investigate disappearances and uphold the right to defend human rights.

Separately, Sansores announced she will travel abroad, returning to the state on 18 August. Critics, including the local business federation, argue she has not prepared her fifth government report and point to a sharp economic contraction, citing declines of 7% in 2024 and an estimated 13.6% in 2025, as well as shortages of medicines at the state oncology hospital.
