Layda Sansores calls students “cowards” during Campeche event
During the 50th anniversary ceremony of the Instituto Tecnológico de Campeche, Governor Layda Sansores San Román engaged in a verbal confrontation with students. After interrupting her own speech to address a group of students who were conversing, Sansores demanded they raise their hands to identify themselves. When they did not respond as she expected, she labeled them “cowards,” stating, “Are you also cowards? Because I am not.”
Following the confrontation, the Governor shifted her remarks to defend her administration's integrity and commitment to austerity. She explicitly rejected allegations of corruption, stating, “I did not come to take a damn peso from this government,” and denied purchasing land or using excessive resources. She also used the platform to criticize former governor and PRI leader Alejandro Moreno Cárdenas.
The incident, captured on video and widely circulated on social media, has drawn significant criticism from citizens, parents, and educators regarding the Governor's conduct and institutional decorum.
