Campeche Governor Layda Sansores faces criticism over spending and security
The administration of Campeche Governor Layda Sansores is facing intense criticism regarding fiscal transparency, public security, and political conduct. Community leader Abraham Roberto Simón Díaz has labeled the current government the “worst” in state history, alleging a massive discrepancy in public spending. He noted that out of 125 billion pesos received over the last five years, only approximately 30 billion pesos have been accounted for in visible public works and infrastructure.
Simón Díaz also highlighted a severe security crisis in Ciudad del Carmen, citing high murder rates and a lack of police presence. He has called for the removal of Marcela Muñoz Martínez and increased patrols to combat rising crime and impunity.
Adding to these criticisms, former local deputy Luis García Hernández accused the governor of engaging in “political persecution” against adversary Eliseo Fernández Montúfar. Hernández suggested that attempts to disqualify Fernández could backfire, potentially strengthening his political position ahead of the 2027 elections. He further alleged that the administration has failed to provide transparency, contributed to economic instability by allowing Pemex operations to shift to Tabasco, and has misused public resources for political purposes.
