Campeche governor promotes multibillion‑peso investments as critics decry missing‑persons funding

Governor Layda Sansores presented her fifth state report, highlighting new private investment in Campeche, Mexico. Projects include a 300‑million‑peso expansion of the Cruz Azul cement company’s fifth plant in Seybaplaya, expected to create about 800 jobs, and a 130‑million‑peso dairy processing facility that will handle up to 100,000 liters daily, serve 877 local producers and benefit more than 50,000 people. The report also noted the construction of a new industrial park, the export of Campeche products via Seybaplaya’s port, and a record 600 million pesos in credit for entrepreneurs.

Opposition commentators, however, accused the administration of spending only 1.8 million pesos on a drone, radios and a Can‑Am Maverick vehicle for searching disappeared persons in the southern part of the state, while disappearances have risen sharply. They point to over 300 million pesos already spent on rented patrols and claim the limited equipment is insufficient to address the security crisis in areas such as Escárcega, Candelaria, Ciudad del Carmen and the border zone with Quintana Roo.
