Campeche health officials urge testing as Covid-19 and influenza cases rise
Health officials in Campeche, Mexico, are urging residents to seek professional medical testing following an increase in respiratory virus cases. Recent laboratory data shows 18 active cases of Covid-19 and 13 cases of influenza, marking an upward trend compared to earlier summer reporting periods.
State Health Secretary Orlando Alvarado Rivadeneyra noted that because both viruses present with nearly identical early symptoms—including high fever, persistent coughing, fatigue, muscle aches, and nasal congestion—patients cannot reliably distinguish between them through physical discomfort alone.
Medical guidance suggests that while influenza often strikes suddenly and with high intensity, Covid-19 may develop more gradually and can sometimes include loss of taste or smell and breathing difficulties. Authorities are emphasizing the importance of avoiding self-medication and visiting designated health clinics to ensure accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment protocols.
