Campeche launches vaccination campaign amid rise in respiratory infections

Health authorities in Campeche, Mexico, have launched an intensive vaccination campaign to combat the winter season. The initiative follows a significant rise in acute respiratory infections (IRAS), with reports indicating between 115,000 and 170,000 recorded cases or consultations so far this year.

The vaccination drive aims to administer over 364,000 doses, including 257,000 for influenza and 107,000 for Covid-19, utilizing Moderna and Pfizer biologics. Additionally, a campaign for the nonavalent Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine will target fifth-grade girls and non-school-aged 11-year-olds.

Priority groups for these immunizations include children from six months of age, older adults, pregnant women, healthcare workers, and individuals with underlying health conditions. Officials noted that while respiratory cases are increasing due to seasonal weather changes, the surge is expected and they are implementing mobile brigades and fixed vaccination points to contain the spread.
