Campi Bisenzio: Delayed riverbank works spark parliamentary probe, factory accident injures worker

A written parliamentary question was submitted by Fratelli d'Italia MP Aldo Mattia to Italy's ministers of infrastructure and civil protection, accusing authorities of neglecting the Bisenzio river embankments in Campi Bisenzio. The inquiry cites repeated warnings since 2015, a failed reinforcement project dating back to 2003, and a near‑disaster on 14 March 2025 when water breached a weak section of the riverbank, despite earlier regional assessments.

Separately, on the night of 16‑17 May 2026, a 51‑year‑old female worker at a factory on Via Nenni in Campi Bisenzio suffered a hand injury after it became caught in a rolling machine. She was taken to Careggi hospital under a green‑code emergency.

Both incidents highlight concerns over public safety and the adequacy of local risk‑management measures.
