Campi Flegrei experiences seismic swarm in Italy
A seismic swarm has been recorded in the Campi Flegrei area of Italy. On Monday, October 26, 2026, a magnitude 2.3 earthquake occurred at approximately 11:44 AM, with its epicenter located in the Solfatara zone within the municipality of Pozzuoli.
The tremor occurred at a depth of about 1.5 kilometers and was felt by the local population. This activity follows a period of ongoing seismic monitoring in the caldera, which is characterized by intense volcanic activity and bradyseism.
The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), through the Vesuvian Observatory, continues to monitor the region. The volcanic alert level remains at yellow, indicating a state of moderate imbalance. Recent data from September 2026 reported 91 earthquakes in the area, with most occurring at depths of less than three kilometers. While ground uplift continues, the rate of this phenomenon has been progressively reducing.
