Campinas City Council revokes Vini Oliveira's mandate

The Campinas City Council has revoked the mandate of councilor Vini Oliveira following a decision by 23 votes to 5. The revocation, which resulted from a disciplinary process regarding a breach of parliamentary decorum, marks the first time a councilor in the city's history has had their mandate revoked through such a commission.

Oliveira was found to have exceeded the limits of parliamentary oversight during meetings with representatives of the company Smile while a public transport bidding process was underway.

As a result of the vacancy, the council has summoned Tak Chung Wu, the first substitute for the Cidadania party, to assume the seat. Tak, a naturalized Brazilian and social and environmental activist, received 956 votes in the 2024 elections. He has ten days to be sworn into office, with the specific date yet to be determined.
