HGNI calls for blood donations amid new health criteria
Various health and social initiatives are being conducted across Brazil. In Nova Iguaçu, the Hospital Geral de Nova Iguaçu (HGNI) has issued a call for blood donations to replenish stocks, specifically noting an urgent need for O positive and O negative types. Following new Ministry of Health guidelines effective October 1, the hospital has expanded donation eligibility to include regular donors over 70, adolescents aged 16 and 17, and individuals who have undergone certain procedures like tattoos or cosmetic fillers after a four-month waiting period.
Other regional efforts include the Hemocentro of Rio Grande do Sul extending hours to address declining blood supplies, and the Santa Casa de Fernandópolis organizing a charity event to fund hospital maintenance. Social welfare programs are also active, such as the 'Criança Feliz' initiative in Altos, PI, and community inclusion events in Varginha. Additionally, medical students in Campinas are participating in a donation drive to support local health centers.
