Campinas reports surge in illegal traffic turns

The Municipal Development Company of Campinas (Emdec) has reported a significant rise in traffic violations in the Vila Rica region. Specifically, at the intersection of Amoreiras Avenue, Rua Ouro, and Avenida Ana Beatriz Bierrembach, 280 illegal turn infractions were recorded between January and mid-August 2026.

These violations occur primarily when drivers accessing Amoreiras via Rua Ouro perform prohibited left turns to head toward the city center, creating risks for other motorists. Monitoring via 360-degree cameras has captured these incidents, many of which occur while vehicles on Amoreiras are stopped at traffic lights.

Across the entire municipality of Campinas, illegal turns increased by 56.6% in the first seven months of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025. Additionally, prohibited U-turns rose to 844 infractions in 2026, up from 400 in the first half of 2025.
