Campinas to host samba school parades in 2027
Samba school parades are set to return to Avenida Francisco Glicério in Campinas in 2027, marking the end of an 11-year hiatus since the last official parades in 2015. The decision was reached during a meeting between the Municipal Secretariat of Culture and Tourism, the League of Samba Schools of Campinas (Liesca), and local carnival entities.
The event is scheduled for March 13, 2027, which falls outside the official Carnival dates to avoid competing with major parades in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Four samba schools are confirmed to participate: Leões da Vila Padre Anchieta, Rosa de Prata, Estrela D’Alva, and Unidos do Shangai.
The initiative aims to revitalize the local cultural economy, supporting musicians, artisans, and seamstresses. Funding for the event will involve mobilization by the schools themselves, through events, support searches, and potential municipal amendments.
