British unions demand workplace heat protections

British labor organizations are calling for official temperature limits in the workplace to protect millions of employees from extreme heat. Workers in various sectors, including hospitality, construction, and emergency services, report that rising temperatures are creating dangerous conditions, increasing the risk of dehydration, heatstroke, and physical exhaustion.

In the hospitality sector, kitchen staff face intense heat from grills and ovens, while construction workers and emergency responders struggle with heavy gear and outdoor exposure. The Bakers, Food and Allied Workers’ Union has highlighted the added difficulty for those working in environments already heated by industrial ovens and fermentation rooms.
