Camping Sainte-Marie restaurant destroyed by fire in Chaumont
A fire destroyed the restaurant and terrace at Camping Sainte-Marie in Chaumont during the early hours of Monday, September 14. The blaze, which began around 3:30 a.m. at the rear of the restaurant and fry shop, completely consumed the kitchen and a 40-square-meter terrace.
Firefighters arrived to find the structures fully engulfed in flames. While the fire was quickly brought under control, crews had to monitor hot spots for over an hour. Local police assisted by removing gas bottles and notifying campsite occupants.
Managers Romain and Wandy Decobert reported no injuries, though the fire caused significant material loss and effectively ended the seasonal operations for the restaurant and its staff. The campsite remains open to guests.
