Campo Grande authorities launch campaign against child labor in cemeteries

The Campo Grande Secretariat of Social Assistance and Citizenship (SAS) is conducting social outreach and educational actions at two public cemeteries, Santo Amaro and São Sebastião, to combat child labor.

During the All Souls' Day holiday, teams from the Specialized Social Approach Service (SEAS) and Specialized Social Assistance Reference Centers (Creas) are working to sensitize visitors and street vendors. The initiative aims to prevent the exploitation of children and adolescents in tasks such as cleaning graves or selling candles and flowers.

Officials are distributing pamphlets from the “Infância sem Corrente” campaign and advising the public to report irregularities to the Guardianship Council. Under the Statute of the Child and Adolescent (ECA), work is strictly prohibited for children up to 13 years old. Those aged 14 to 15 may only work as apprentices, while those 16 and older face specific legal restrictions regarding night shifts and hazardous tasks.
