Brazil launches SUS Sovereign Cloud to secure national health data

The Brazilian Ministry of Health has launched a strategic partnership with the Federal Data Processing Service (Serpro) to implement the 'SUS Sovereign Cloud'. This initiative aims to increase digital sovereignty by ensuring that data from the Unified Health System (SUS) is stored and processed exclusively within Brazilian territory, subject to national laws including the General Data Protection Law (LGPD).

The first phase of the project focuses on the National SUS User Registry (CadSUS) and the National Health Data Network (RNDS), which currently manages over 5 billion health records. The infrastructure will be managed by Serpro and DataSUS, providing enhanced security, governance, and continuity for digital health services.

Health Minister Alexandre Padilha stated that the move provides the SUS with its own 'data home,' ensuring technological autonomy and protection for sensitive citizen information.
