Campo Grande implements new policies following homeless population census
An unprecedented census conducted by the Intersectoral Working Group for the Homeless Population (GT-PSR) has identified approximately 1,400 people living on the streets in Campo Grande. The data, presented by the Municipal Secretariat of Social Assistance and Citizenship (SAS) and the Public Defender's Office of Mato Grosso do Sul, aims to guide the restructuring of social assistance policies and the revision of the Municipal Social Assistance Plan.
In response to these findings, officials announced the upcoming inauguration of a new Centro POP, which will provide improved infrastructure and expanded activities for the homeless population.
Simultaneously, the Campo Grande City Council has approved projects to address housing deficits. These include the donation of municipal properties in the Residencial Abaeté and Fazenda Bandeira areas to the Municipal Housing and Land Affairs Agency (Emha) to facilitate social rental housing through public-private partnerships. Additionally, legislation was discussed to ensure the recognition of social names on tombstones for transgender, travesty, and non-binary individuals.
