Campo Grande cemeteries reflect the city's historical development

The public cemeteries of Campo Grande, Brazil, serve as historical records of the city's urban evolution. The Santo Antônio, Santo Amaro, and São Sebastião (also known as Cruzeiro) cemeteries are currently managed by the Campo Grande City Hall.

Historically, the area now occupied by Praça Ary Coelho served as the settlement's first cemetery during the 1870s, when the community was known as Arraial de Santo Antônio. As the population grew and the urban layout expanded, burials were relocated to other regions, and the former cemetery site was transformed into a public square.

André de Moura Brandão, the municipal secretary of Infrastructure and Public Services, stated that preserving these cemeteries is essential to valuing the city's memory and history, noting that they hold the legacies of generations that helped build the capital.
