Campo Grande enters federal emergency status following severe storms
Campo Grande is managing the aftermath of severe weather events and implementing new climate prevention measures. The federal government has officially recognized a state of emergency in the city following a windstorm on September 10, a move that allows the municipality to request emergency resources for recovery.
Local authorities have mobilized over 35 teams to repair damages caused by recent storms, addressing approximately 450 occurrences, primarily involving fallen trees and branches. To improve long-term resilience, the Climate Change Committee (Comec) is coordinating prevention and monitoring protocols to prepare for potential impacts from El Niño.
Recent meteorological shifts have brought significant rainfall to the region, with some areas recording over 36 mm of rain, providing relief from intense heat. However, the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) has maintained storm alerts for the area, warning of potential heavy precipitation, strong winds, and hail.
