Brazil expands public health services and mental health care

Several Brazilian municipalities are implementing new health initiatives focused on mental health and professional training.

In Campo Grande, the Eugênio Oliveira Martins de Barros Public Health School has officially launched. Linked to the Municipal Health Secretariat (Sesau), the school aims to integrate the public health network with universities and researchers to strengthen the Unified Health System (SUS). This launch coincides with high rankings for the city in the National Residency Exam (ENARE), particularly in Family Medicine, Family Health, Psychiatry, and Mental Health.

In Rio Branco, the CAPS III Samaúma center is transitioning to 24-hour operations. The facility will provide intensive care for adults with severe mental health needs, including six overnight hospitality spots to help avoid hospitalizations.

In Cuiabá, the CAPS III Verdão is nearing completion with an investment of approximately R$ 4 million. Expected to be delivered by November 2026, this unit will also operate 24 hours a day, providing intensive psychosocial care and capable of handling roughly 2,400 monthly consultations.
