Campo Grande merchants demand increased security after series of thefts

Merchants in the central region of Campo Grande are calling for increased police presence following a series of thefts. A recent incident involved a costume shop on Rua 13 de Maio, where a suspect spent approximately eight minutes removing protective grates to steal products, resulting in a loss of nearly R$ 4,000. Although the suspect was caught in flagrante and some items were recovered, the event has heightened local concerns regarding insecurity.

In response, the Chamber of Dirigentes Lojistas (CDL Campo Grande) conducted visits to local businesses on Tuesday to offer institutional support and hear demands. Business owners reported that criminals frequently target not only merchandise and cash but also copper wiring and air conditioning units. Local retailers expressed frustration, noting that despite the high volume of people and business in the area, security measures remain insufficient to prevent recurring crimes.
