Maceió: Two Ceilurb employees detained with R$ 2 million in cash
Two employees of Ceilurb, a company contracted to provide public lighting services in Maceió, were detained after being found with approximately R$ 2 million in cash. The suspects have been identified as manager Maurício Leite Tenório Costa and assistant Leopoldo Del Rosário Toro Ramires Júnior.
The operation was a coordinated effort between the security forces of Alagoas and Sergipe. Intelligence from Sergipe led authorities to monitor the suspects, who were intercepted in the Farol neighborhood shortly after leaving a bank branch. During the vehicle search, police discovered the large sum of cash, along with cell phones, documents, and checkbooks.
In statements to authorities, the men claimed the cash withdrawal was conducted under the orders of the company's owner. Investigations are currently underway by the Directorate of Repression of Corruption and Organized Crime (Dracco) to determine the origin and intended destination of the funds. Reports indicate that one of the men may have previously made separate cash withdrawals of R$ 1 million each. The case has drawn attention to the financial relationship between the Maceió City Hall and Ceilurb, which has received hundreds of millions of Reais in contracts over recent years.
