Campo Grande scrap metal yards fined R$ 20,000

The Metropolitan Civil Guard (GCM) issued fines totaling R$ 20,000 to two scrap metal yards in Campo Grande following inspections on Friday. Each establishment received a R$ 10,000 penalty after technical teams from the Special Secretariat for Security and Social Defense (Sesdes) identified irregularities.

In one location, inspectors discovered aluminum wires that lacked entry records in the system or the fiscal control book. The penalized businesses have five business days to present a defense to the Municipal Agency for Environment and Urban Planning (Planurb).

These inspections are part of an ongoing operation to combat the theft and receiving of wires, cables, copper, and other metallic materials across the capital's seven urban regions. In the first eight months of the year, the GCM has conducted 104 inspections of scrap yards, resulting in the seizure of materials without proven origin, 15 citations, and 24 environmental notifications.
