Campo Grande reports falling unemployment and high administrative efficiency
Campo Grande has reported significant economic improvements, including the third-lowest unemployment rate among Brazilian capitals for the second quarter of 2026. The unemployment rate fell from 4.3% to 3.1% over the past year, while the labor underutilization rate decreased from 8.2% to 5.1%.
Formal employment data from Novo Caged shows a positive balance of 3,772 new jobs between January and August 2026. The service sector led this growth with 2,617 new positions, followed by construction (1,357), agribusiness (251), and industry (181). Conversely, the commerce sector recorded a loss of 634 jobs.
Additionally, the city has been ranked as a leader in the Center-West region for the efficiency of its public administration by the Centro de Liderança Pública (CLP). This ranking is based on indicators such as administrative costs, accounting quality, transparency, and the speed of business registration. Mayor Adriane Lopes attributed these results to investments in digital modernization, such as the Electronic Information System (SEI!).
