Várzea Grande and Campo Grande launch health update and winter shelter initiatives

In Várzea Grande, the municipal health department opened all 25 basic health units on Saturday for a "Dia D" campaign. Hundreds of families received vaccinations, Bolsa Família card updates, weight checks, vitamin‑A doses, medical and dental consultations, and 1,582 procedures were recorded by midday, including 946 vaccine doses. Health secretary Valéria Nogueira said the weekend opening aims to "guarantee access to quality health for all Várzea‑grandenses" who cannot attend during the week.

In nearby Campo Grande, the city’s winter‑aid programmes provided emergency shelter for vulnerable residents during cold nights. The "Inverno Acolhedor" action sheltered 235 people over three nights, offering beds, blankets, warm meals and basic health checks; the final night alone served 75 people. Concurrently, the municipal "HumanizAção Inverno" project reached 42 people on one night and 56 the next, delivering overnight accommodation, food, clothing, hygiene facilities and referrals to social services. Both initiatives targeted homeless individuals, including immigrants and pet owners, and were supported by local health, social assistance and security agencies.
