Campo Grande woman ordered to pay R$ 15,000 for racial slur

A woman in Campo Grande has been ordered to pay R$ 15,000 in moral damages after directing a racial slur toward her former tenant during a dispute over a property vacancy.

The conflict arose during the termination of a residential lease agreement. According to court documents, the landlord sent audio messages containing offensive language of a racial nature. While the defendant initially contested the authenticity and interpretation of the recordings, she later acknowledged using the offensive terms, claiming she was in an emotionally distressed state due to the property dispute.

Judge Marcus Abreu de Magalhães, of the 12th Civil Court, ruled that contractual disagreements do not justify using race or color as a means of humiliation. The court rejected the defense's argument that the words were spoken during a moment of exaltation without specific discriminatory intent, noting that emotional distress does not excuse such offenses.
