Campo Grande's Open Games Collect Over 1.2 Tonnes of Food for Social Programs
The 46th edition of the Jogos Abertos in Campo Grande, Brazil, is scheduled to begin on the 17th of the month.
During the registration period, the municipal sports foundation (Fundação Municipal de Esportes – Funesp) required each athlete to contribute one kilogram of non‑perishable food as a “social fee” instead of a cash payment. This effort yielded 1,262 kg (about 1.2 tonnes) of food donations.
All of the collected food will be directed to the city’s social assistance programs that provide daily nutrition to families in need. The Games feature basketball, futsal, handball and volleyball for both men and women, with participating teams representing companies, clubs, schools, cooperatives and other local associations, and will select the capital’s representatives for state‑level championships.
