Campo Maior celebrates return of Festas do Povo
The Festas do Povo in Campo Maior has returned after an 11-year hiatus, transforming the town into a massive paper garden. The UNESCO-recognized tradition features approximately ten kilometers of intricate paper flower decorations across nearly one hundred streets.
Organizers estimate the event attracts between 300,000 and 400,000 visitors, with high demand from both domestic and international tourists. The festivities involve significant community participation across all age groups, including local youth learning traditional flower-making techniques.
Local officials, including Jorge Grifo and João Manuel Nabeiro, have described the edition as a major success that reinforces local identity and community unity. The celebration includes various cultural activities such as music, dance, and traditional performances.
