Camponaraya to convert ‘El Barco’ into performing arts laboratory

The Camponaraya City Council has announced plans to convert the multi-purpose building known as ‘El Barco’ into a Performing Arts Laboratory. This decision follows the rejection of a previous proposal to build a new auditorium due to high costs.

The project aims to provide a dedicated space for local amateur groups and companies to rehearse and perform. The facility will include a stage, seating for approximately 300 people, restrooms, and technical equipment, while maintaining its original industrial aesthetic of concrete and iron. The building will also feature classrooms, storage, and workspaces.

The first phase of the works, budgeted at 260,000 euros, is expected to be put out to tender before the end of the year. The municipality anticipates that the space will be operational in the first months of 2027. Long-term goals include establishing training workshops and integrating the center into the cultural circuits of the Junta de Castilla y León.

This initiative is part of a broader investment package totaling nearly one million euros, which also includes the upcoming tender for a new Social Center in Narayola.
