Campos de Conil school closures reach Andalusian Parliament

The closure of five out of six sites at the Colegio Público Rural Campos de Conil has become a subject of debate in the Andalusian Parliament. The closures, which affect more than 100 students in rural areas, stem from poor infrastructure conditions.

PSOE representative Juan Cornejo has called for immediate action, demanding investment and a clear execution plan to reopen the classrooms and prevent the relocation of students. He criticized the lack of coordination between the regional government (Junta de Andalucía) and the local City Council, stating that families are tired of the two administrations shifting responsibility to one another.

In response, the Regional Minister of Educational Development and Vocational Training, María del Carmen Castillo, clarified that the regional government did not close the sites. She stated that the local municipality closed them due to a lack of necessary municipal maintenance. The Ministry has instead focused on relocating students to a functioning site and providing school transportation to ensure educational continuity.
