Campos dos Goytacazes intensifies dengue combat amid low vaccination rates
Health authorities in Campos dos Goytacazes are intensifying efforts to combat the Aedes aegypti mosquito through the Center for Zoonosis Control (CCZ) and the Municipal Vector Control Program. Strategies include continuous community clean-up drives, home visits, trap monitoring, and aerial blocking in high-infestation neighborhoods to prevent the spread of dengue, Zika, yellow fever, and chikungunya.
Despite these field efforts, officials expressed concern regarding low vaccination rates for the dengue vaccine, Qdenga. While the vaccine has been available in the public health network since June 2025 for children and adolescents aged 10 to 14, uptake remains low. In 2025, only 8,346 doses were administered out of a target population of 34,110. This trend of low adherence has continued into 2026, with only 3,544 first doses and 2,113 second doses recorded by mid-September.
