Camps Bay tenants ordered to vacate after R1.4m rent dispute

The Western Cape High Court has issued an eviction order against tenants in the upmarket Camps Bay suburb of Cape Town following a significant rental dispute. The homeowner, Tania dos Santos Sousa Costa, reported that the tenants failed to pay rent for nearly two years, resulting in arrears exceeding R1.4 million.

The tenants had argued that maintenance issues within the property justified withholding rent payments. However, the homeowner stated she was denied access to the premises to inspect or address the reported problems. Court documents also indicated that the tenants allegedly sublet portions of the home without authorization.

During the legal proceedings, the tenants reportedly offered to purchase the property for R11 million, an offer that was declined by the owner. Acting Judge Waheeda Amien has ordered the family to vacate the property by 30 November 2026.
