Campus Reform terminates Indian American student correspondent

Vasant Bhatt, a 21-year-old Indian American political science student at the University of Houston, reports that the conservative higher-education outlet Campus Reform has terminated his role as a senior correspondent.

Bhatt stated on social media that the decision followed his public disclosure that he voted for a Democrat in a Texas US Senate race to protest anti-Indian bigotry and xenophobia. He noted that he refused to follow the Republican Party line in response to attacks on the identity of Indian Americans.

Campus Reform, a project of the Virginia-based Leadership Institute, has not issued a public comment regarding the termination. Bhatt’s profile has been removed from the organization’s website. Suhag Shukla, executive director of the Hindu American Foundation, criticized the situation, linking such incidents to a broader climate of hostility toward the Indian American community.
