Camron Cooper earns UTSA No. 1 jersey after defensive transition

Camron Cooper has transitioned from a two-way high school player to a star outside linebacker for the UTSA Roadrunners. Originally a three-star recruit from Dayton High School who played both defensive line and tight end, Cooper committed to UTSA in 2022, citing the leadership and high standards set by head coach Jeff Traylor.

After playing as a tight end and special teams contributor during his freshman and sophomore seasons, Cooper decided to switch to defense following the 2023 season. This positional change helped elevate his game and production. Despite facing adversity, including a season-ending injury sustained during a 2025 game against Texas A&M, Cooper has been recognized by his teammates and coaches. He has been voted to wear the prestigious No. 1 jersey for the 2026 campaign.
