Camunda report: 72% of AI initiatives fail due to flawed processes

A report by Camunda, titled ‘The AI Process Gap’, reveals that 72 percent of companies have seen AI initiatives fail due to flawed business processes. These failures result in an average cost of 1.55 million USD per company.

The study indicates that many organizations attempt to apply artificial intelligence to existing workflows designed before the AI era rather than redesigning processes from the ground up. While 79 percent of companies integrate AI into current workflows to avoid internal resistance, 82 percent believe their investments will fail without a deep process redesign.

Kurt Petersen, SVP Customer Success at Camunda, noted that AI adoption is moving faster than the ability of companies to redesign their core processes. Approximately 61 percent of respondents admitted that their business process redesign cannot keep pace with the required speed of AI implementation. Furthermore, 82 percent of companies estimate it could take up to five years to make their most critical core processes truly compatible with AI.
