Can Tho General Hospital performs two successful kidney transplants
Can Tho General Hospital has successfully performed two kidney transplants from living donors in a single day, marking a significant milestone in advanced medical capabilities for the Mekong Delta region. The procedures were conducted with technical transfer and direct professional support from experts at Hue Central Hospital.
The two successful cases involved family members: a husband donating a kidney to his wife, who had suffered from end-stage renal disease for eight years, and a father donating a kidney to his son, who had undergone peritoneal dialysis for four years. Both recipients and donors are reported to be in stable condition and are under close medical supervision.
This achievement follows an initial successful transplant at Can Tho General Hospital in April 2026. The ongoing collaboration between the two hospitals aims to master complex transplant techniques and expand access to specialized kidney treatments for patients in southern Vietnam.
Separately, Gia Lai General Hospital has also reported advancements in regional healthcare by successfully implementing 134 specialized medical techniques authorized by the Ministry of Health. These include high-tech procedures in oncology, burns, and intensive care, such as continuous emergency blood filtration, aimed at improving local treatment quality and reducing complications.
