Can Tho police arrest suspect in fatal Cambodia robbery

Can Tho police have arrested Le Tan Buu, a suspect involved in a violent murder and robbery that occurred in Bavet, Svay Rieng province, Cambodia. The crime took place on July 7, 2026, when a group led by Nguyen The Du attacked a grocery and currency exchange shop. The assailants killed the shop owner, Sam Hak, and injured his wife and daughter before fleeing with a large amount of assets.

Following the incident, the suspects illegally entered Vietnam to evade authorities. After receiving information from Cambodian law enforcement, the Ministry of Public Security established a specialized task force to track the group. Can Tho police officers traveled over 500 km to the mountainous region of Lam Dong province to locate and apprehend Buu.

Authorities seized 8 taels of SJC gold, 8 plain gold rings, 2 broken gold bracelets, 4,600 USD, 70 million VND, two motorcycles, and three mobile phones from the suspect. The investigation covers charges including murder, robbery, failure to report a crime, concealing a crime, and organizing illegal entry.
