Can Tho Port welcomes first direct container vessel from Nanning, China

Can Tho Port has welcomed its first international container vessel traveling directly from Nanning Port in Guangxi, China. The vessel traveled via the Pinglu Canal, through the Gulf of Tonkin and the East Sea, before entering the Hau River to reach Cai Cui Port in Can Tho.

This new river-sea transport route establishes a direct logistics corridor between Southwest China and Vietnam’s Mekong Delta. The service is expected to operate at a frequency of two trips per month, with a transit time of approximately seven days. The vessels used for this route are river-sea container ships with a deadweight tonnage of approximately 4,900 DWT and a capacity of about 500 TEU.

Local officials noted that the route provides a vital connection for the Mekong Delta’s major exports, including rice, seafood, fruit, and processed agricultural products, to reach Chinese markets more efficiently. The initiative is supported by Can Tho Port Joint Stock Company, the Vietnam Maritime Corporation (VIMC), and the Beibu Gulf Port Group.
