Can Tho to reduce over 1,000 school administrators in restructuring

The People's Committee of Can Tho has signed a plan to reorganize public preschool, general, and continuing education institutions within the city. This restructuring aims to consolidate more than 1,100 educational facilities into 406 large-scale institutions or multi-level schools, representing a nearly 65% reduction in the number of entities.

As a result of this consolidation, the city expects to reduce its administrative staff by more than 1,000 positions, including 750 principals and 330 vice-principals. Management of the department-run institutions will decrease from 108 to 99 facilities, while commune and ward-level institutions will drop from 1,048 to 307.

To manage the surplus leadership staff, the city plans to implement flexible employment transitions, such as moving individuals into commune-level education roles, teaching positions, or other supportive roles based on capacity and desire, or providing retirement benefits. To address teacher shortages, the city will maintain existing teaching staff and prioritize direct instructional roles.
