Can Yücel commemorated in literary tributes

The Turkish poet and translator Can Yücel was commemorated through various literary events and tributes marking the anniversary of his passing.

In Bursa, the Osmangazi Municipality organized a special program titled “An Evening of Can Yücel with Poetry, Rebellion, and Laughter” at the İsmail Hakkı Tonguç Bağış Library. The event featured 20 poets and writers who recited his original works and poems attributed to him. Moderated by Duran Saper, the session explored the stories behind the poems and Yücel’s unique poetic world.

Recognized for his humanist voice, bold style, and mastery of the Turkish language, Yücel is celebrated for his ability to blend humor and social awareness into his work. He was also a renowned translator, known for adapting world classics into the spirit of Turkish. Having spent his final years in Datça, where he is buried, his legacy continues to influence Turkish literature through his numerous poetry books and translations.
