CANACAR 2026 highlights challenges for Mexico's freight transport sector
At the CANACAR 2026 National Convention, the Mexican National Chamber of Freight Transport (CANACAR) addressed critical challenges facing the cargo transport industry, including deteriorating road infrastructure, insecurity, and regulatory barriers.
CANACAR President Augusto Ramos emphasized the need for increased investment in road networks, noting that only 9% of free roads and 32% of toll highways are currently in optimal condition. The organization aims to have over half of the country's roads in optimal condition by 2030, prioritizing projects such as the expansion of the Los Chorros section on Highway 57.
Additionally, the sector is preparing for upcoming labor law changes regarding reduced working hours, which necessitates the creation of secure rest areas for drivers. To mitigate operational risks, Grupo Innovazione introduced the National Safe Fleet Program, developed alongside CANACAR and Quálitas. This initiative uses diagnostic analysis and risk scoring to help companies identify and prevent accidents rather than merely reacting to them.
